I only wish it was about an inch taller inside. Big enough to hold that roast yet small enough to let the door close.The Convection feature doesn't help a thing. You CAN touch the exterior while it cooks without your skin coming off and you can stack things which are metal on top of it and beside it without them melting [don't sit or lay on it, I don't mean it is THAT COOL]. For that I'd like to get the Breville which is rated higher on many sites but this is one of few with a COOL EXTERIOR. Well I've never seen a toaster oven come with anything but the lowest quality pans.
Krups didn't forget some of us can't see size 8pt fonts of black on black. We don't need BELLS RINGING on any of them and should have the choice to silence them.Some complain that the pans it comes with are lousy. Text on buttons is a nice size and text next to buttons is a nice size. MANUFACTURERS ARE YOU LISTENING. Since anything you accidentally burn will burn the EXTERIOR I'd go with a BLACK to hide your mistakes.
I've owned TWO of these. We have cooked with it several times per day, EVERYDAY FOR HOURS SINCE 11-2005. I ignore them. We can SEE when a unit is off and we can SEE when it is on. I don't know why anyone would make a product for kitchen home use that can't be touched while it is operating. Given that this one is reliable as all heck, cooks everything from frozen treats to a full roast (a large frozen solid chunk of something needs extra time) and it doesn't fry my skin I have to give it a much higher rating than Consumer Reports does.
These NUMBERS ARE BIG, the text color smartly contrasts with the color of the facade and the display panel IS BACKLIT. Breville says that is NOT the case with their oven. KRUPS products are always beautiful like Delonghi and like Delonghi don't last as long as I'd like things to last but this one HAS LASTED through a commendable 4+ years of constant use. Other company's 9" pans won't let you close the door on this oven. Where is a well made pan that fits. That does pose a problem though. Don't manufacturers by now know just how small modern kitchens can be. KRUPS does a great job with graphics on their appliances in regards to READABLE EVEN FOR 80 YEAR OLDS (they cook, eat and OPERATE DEVICES too, despite the thinking of marketing idiots who'd have you think otherwise).
The Soft Grip 9" will. First a Black then the a White. They fit even with their thick flange where manufacturers of other pans seem to not to know the edge or flange should be included in the dimensions given for pans. The only GOOD pan, and I did write "good" not excellent is the Anolon Sure Grip. Some of us are sensitive to sound and many are light sleepers. Now find the square one. WE NEED HIGH QUAL PANS THAT FIT IN TOASTER OVENS. Not quickie items like toast either, so we are among those who did get our money's worth and given all the trays that fall forward and buttons poorly made, all the sickening dinging sounds, the burnt arms caused by competing machines, I think I'll go now and buy a 3rd one.
The only alternative are to use ridiculously tiny 6-7" bakeware which hold maybe one potato. Chrome on chrome and black on black might be shiek but not everyone who uses electronics is below 20 and even young people have vision problems. All of them need to be made with a button to TURN ALL AUDIBLE ALERTS OFF. Its not easy to locate. The Defrost feature is useless.
Mine broke after 9 months. At this rate, I'll miss both Thanksgiving and Christmas. I took it in to a service center and they're trying to repair it (instead of just giving me a new one like I'd have expected). It's been a month and they're still waiting on a part with no ETA. Sigh.When it was working, I'd give it 3.5 stars. It's not really an oven replacement because the top element is too close so it burns things, and the dial for presets is worthless, but it's a pretty good toaster oven.
This toaster oven is among the more expensive choices. We bought it recently after several years of frustration with inexpensive ($40-60)ovens that failed to toast bread evenly or that simply broke and failed to work.We have used it for toast, English muffins, bagels, and baked potatoes. It toasts evenly, and the settings are useful. So far, we are very pleased with it.
I spent over $200 on this toaster oven thinking that at this price it would be of good quality and can last very long. The oven won't shut off unless unplug it from the wall outlet. WRONG. It died right after one year warranty expired. It's a fire hazard.I brought it to the service station and the repair would cost $140. I decided to toss it to the dumpster.If you have to buy this toaster oven, make sure you buy the extended warranty.
The "Before using for the first time" instructions suggest a 15 minute bake cycle to remove possible residues from manufacturing. The oven failed during this bake cycle.Customer service was easy to contact and provided a prepaid label to return the oven for repair/replacement.I am awaiting the return of the oven.My son & daughter-in-law have this oven and are very satisfied with it.Although I am disappointed by it's failure, I have been impressed, so far, with the way Krups has apologetically dealt with me.U P D A T EThe repaired unit was returned a week after I shipped it back for repair. A replaced facia panel (control board) and power supply.It looks like new and works just perfectly.I am completely impressed by the Krups Customer Service.
